Polar Hen
|
Our winning entry to an international arts & architecture competition in Winnipeg, MB, Canada. Warming Huts v.2012 was an open competition, endorsed by the Manitoba Association of Architects. Instead of creating a single warming hut for skaters along the Assiniboine River Trail, we designed „POLAR HEN“, a fearsome creature! A pump with a sprinkler connected to a compressor and a generator. It settles down on the ice, perforates it and begins to pump up the icy riverwater to spray it over an air-filled silicone inflatable, where it instantly freezes. When the ice coat thickens enough, the inflatable is emptied and removed from the inside of the ice igloo. POLAR HEN is now ready to move on and create more igloos! |
Lighting was installed by Richard Loskot, a well-known visual artist. Thanks, Richard! Darth Vader style capes were designed and made by BOZSKA, thank you, Mira! And our biggest thank you goes to LICON, a Liberec based manufacturer of radiators. Without their support, our trip to Canada would not be possible. Photo (c) Tomas Tesar (www.tomastesar.cz) |
