House in Skurina
|
An extraordinary house for extraordinary people designed to stand in an old Czech village. The design was circumscribed by the characteristics of the place – a beautiful old garden that shares a plot of land with a farmhouse and offers a view of a field awash in colors, where the family grows roses. The married couple came to us with a request that we design a house in which all the private bedrooms would communicate with a central living room, where everyone could meet. We understood from this that they were a traditional, unusually tight-knit family. We went to our kitchen and created a single-story house intensely connected to the outside world through a glass southern facade and an inner yard located between a bedroom and a bathroom. |
The house is designed to stand in a genuine, traditional Bohemian village, yet its closest ties are to the garden and the nearby field of roses. The architectural style of the house is not common in the area, but the spatial layout of the farmhouse testifies to the traditional farming activities pursued by its occupants. The design was created only a short time after we had returned from Greece. If anyone sees Greek influence in it, we won’t deny it. location: Skurina, Czech republic
